Position Description

An exciting opportunity exists, for an experienced Credit Advisor to join our City Center branch located in Edmonton, Alberta.  ABCU is a full-service open bond Credit Union.  Assets $313 million, loans $231 million, deposits $288 million, staff of 40.

The Credit Advisor is a key member of the branch team and is responsible for developing new sales and servicing existing credit members through regular member interactions in an enthusiastic and, member focused working environment.  In this role, you work with members to analyze their credit needs and act as their point of contact.  This role works closely with the rest of the Branch team to ensure that effective referrals for cross-selling opportunities are taking place.

Technical Know How 

Sales & Service - 

  • Disciplined approach to proactive credit sales and renewal processes.
  • Grant credit within established limits or recommend for approval to Credit Risk Management.
  • Take an advice approach to ensure the credit meets the needs of the members but also is in the best interest of the credit union.
  • Conduct member interviews to understand credit needs, analyze and assess credit, mortgages, renewals, mortgage or loan payment extensions, alternatives and substitutions of security.
  • Deeply understand your local market and potential member base, creating a sales plan that will convert leads into new ABCU members. 
  • Provide direction to the sales associate on disbursement of credits once approvals are obtained; ensure profitability of loan through application of loan rates, service charges and overdue interest.  Cross-sell and upsell creditor insurance products with every new or renewal application.
  • Seek out and refer other business opportunities for deposits, investments and loans, wealth and commercial to the branch team. 

Mortgage Portfolio Management

  • Establish, develop and maintain regular member contact by providing valuable timely and pro-active advice and recommendations.
  • Grow portfolio by networking with existing members, referrals and potential members.
  • Provide individualized financial counselling, such as debt consolidation, and information to members on loan services and deposit products offered.  Use financial knowledge to effectively position products and services.
  • Achieve or exceed annual portfolio targets.

Problem Solving

  • Subject matter expert; may make modifications and/or create new practices and procedures.
  • Work is varied and complex.

Accountability 

  • Managerial direction provided to achieve operating objectives within approved plan.
  • Successful completion of the monthly contact plan.
  • Incumbent determines how and when the work is to be completed.

Qualifications Required

  • One year post-secondary education required. 
  • Comfort and ability to work with a high level of detail/accuracy.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Four to six years of job-related/industry experience.
  • Completion of CUIC General Studies Program preferred or working towards (may be waived depending upon positin).
  • A combination of post secondary education and work experience will be considered.
